GLA Tories Vote with Labour on Tube PPP |
15 February, 2002 At the week’s Greater London Assembly meeting, the Tory group on the GLA joined Labour members in refusing to debate the future of the London Underground and the Government’s part-privatisation PPP. Lynne Featherstone, GLA Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson, had a motion down for debate committing the Assembly to support Mayor Ken Livingstone and Transport for London over PPP. |
"Once again the Tories ran away from the fight against the Tube PPP. They joined the Blair clones on the Assembly instead of fighting for the safety of Tube passengers. They moan about Council tax but leave Londoners wide open to picking up the bill for Tube improvements," said Lynne. "The Conservative Party really wants the whole Tube privatised. Read John Redwood’s statements. That’s why the Tory group won’t stand and fight." |
