Commenting on the continued under resourcing of the planning department Liberal Democrat Development Control Spokesperson Councillor Roger Hayes said "The staff in this department are seriously over stretched and the service to our residents is suffering as a result. This problem needs to be addressed and you do not achieve that by increasing the work load and reducing resources. We believed it was vital to add resources in this area and find it quite incredible that the Conservatives and Labour groups have failed to deliver the planning service that the borough needs." |

The borough's planning department, recently named and shamed for it's poor performance, looks set to have another tough year ahead as extra resources proposed by the Liberal Democrats were not supported by either Conservative or Labour Councillors. At last night's budget meeting Lib Dems proposed resourcing an additional member of staff to help combat the recent poor performance and to stop any further decline. This year the council has removed the equivalent of one full time post to work in the important area of Economic Development and predicted an increase in work load. Liberal Democrats believe that the minimum needed to aid this department is to add an additional member of staff and are extremely disappointed that both the Conservatives and Labour failed to support this view.
