| Additional Funds secured to tackle graffitti | |
|
11 March, 2001 Liberal Democrat councillors have succeeded in securing an additional £60,000 in the continuing struggle against graffiti. The money comes as part of this years budget process which saw Liberal Democrats proposing a half million pounds package on quality of life issues such as graffiti. Lib Dems argued that the money was needed to back up the work of the all party working group on graffiti which managed to secure funding for a borough wide blitz this year. |
Commenting on the money Liberal Democrat Group leader Councillor Derek Osbourne said "Graffiti's grip on the borough has been weakened by the work of the all party group on this issue. In particular the one off clean up has had some significant visible impact but unless we allocate sufficient resources then we will end up back in a similar situation to where we were before. We are pleased we managed to convince the other two parties of this but remain concerned that they have only committed to these much needed resources for one year." |
