| Schools set to lose out on £864,000 as Tories refuse to cough up cash | |
|
09 February, 2001 The Conservative Kingston Council Administration came under fire this weeks for planning to short-change schools of £864,000. Under the Conservative's Budget proposals revealed at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the Tories plan to under fund the Standards Fund by £406,000. The effect of this will be to cut off an additional £458,000 in funding from central government which will only be released if Kingston puts in it's contribution. This double whammy will mean the boroughs schools will lose out on £864,000. |
Commenting after the meeting Councillor Mary Reid Lib Dem Education Spokesperson said "Under the current proposals of the Conservative Cabinet the Borough's schools will lose out on £864,000. Such a massive hit is bound to effect the Borough's pupils and the Administration should think again. The parents of the Borough's children deserve to know what has happened to the Tories Pre -election commitment to Education." |
