Conservative Kingston Council Budget Proposals: Initial Response from the Liberal Democrats

09 February, 2001 Liberal Democrats have warned that the budget proposals launched this week by the Conservative’s do not address the concerns of local residents.

Commenting on the budget proposals released this week by the Conservatives, Cllr Wyn Evans, Liberal Democrat finance spokesperson said:

"I’m afraid at first glance, the budget proposals put forward by the Conservatives do not address the concerns of local residents.

The Council has carried out an extensive budget consultation exercise over

recent months but has totally failed to act on its findings. Local residents rated tackling crime, collecting rubbish and keeping the streets clean as the most important yet this Budget will do nothing to put these things right.

It is time the Conservative’s listened to local residents and took note of the consultation findings."

Liberal Democrat Councillors will be encouraging local residents, voluntary organisations and school governors to have their say in the round of Overview Panels that meet in early February before the Conservative’s finalise their proposals in late February.
