09 February, 2001 Kingston is set to up it's efforts in the battle to clear our streets of abandoned cars following this weeks meeting of the Full Council. A motion moved by Liberal Democrat Councillors Ian Reid and Vicki Harris resulted in securing further , renewed and increased action against this blight on our borough. Commenting after the meeting, Cllr Ian Reid said "What we sought to do was set out the principles by which the council will deal with this blight on our roads. What we have achieved as a result of the motion is a commitment to tackling this problem as quickly an effectively as possible. This will be a developing picture which we will have to keep an eye on." And Councillor Vicki Harris added " With over 700 abandoned cars currently identified on our roads the situation is reaching crisis point. The Council needs to take further action to address this growing problem. It is our hope that having established the principle and secured a commitment the Council will move forward in addressing this problem." |
