MORE TORY INCOMPETENCE - GRASS CUTTING FARCE

verges, unkempt parks and badly maintained gardens. Last year the excuse was that the Spring was too wet and this year they say that the Winter was too wet. When is the weather going to be just right for our Goldilocks Cabinet and their contractors to actually get on and do the job?

Conservative Councillor Edwards said in 1999 that they "are on top of the grass cutting now" (Comet 13/08/99) , it now seems he was severely mistaken."

Liberal Democrat Councillors have called for a "clean-sweep" of the Borough. They have launched a campaign to tidy up Kingston and reverse the deterioration in standards that have occurred under the Conservative Administration throughout the borough's environmental services.

Conservative Councillors have been hit by another blow when it emerged this week that they have been forced to cancel the first grass cut of the year. It comes after months of criticism of the way the Conservatives have allowed the Borough to deteriorate as the complaints about potholes, graffiti, broken lampost's, and refuse collections spiral to record levels.

Last year, the Conservative run Council was forced to admit that it had forgotten to cut the grass in many parts of the Borough and as a consequence a record breaking 140 complaints were received at the beginning of the year. In 1999 grass cutting on some council property had been neglected so badly that it reached three feet high! They have now admitted to councillors that they will be cancelling the first cut of 2001.

Lib Dem Councillor Tricia Bamford slammed the Tories. She said:

"In now appears that for a third year in a row the residents of Kingston are going to have to put up with jungles for grass
